“Just a quick update. With less than a couple of weeks to go before we kick off ‘Electric 13’ in San Diego I’ve been hard at work with the guys on getting ready for the tour. We stared of rehearsals as a trio with me, Chris and Johnny as we felt like we just wanted to get a bit of the rust off as we haven’t played together for a while. Obviously ‘Electric’ is very much a two guitar album, one rhythm and one lead so with Mike moving on we’ve decided to welcome back James Stevenson back into the… Read the full article.
“It’s been great to have seen the buzz around the ‘Electric 13’ Tour since the dates were first announced and I’m really looking forward to playing all those songs live again. Over the years my live guitar solos on ‘Electric’ songs have morphed a bit into something different from the originals. So for this tour I’m trying to be as authentic as possible to the recorded versions, a bit like I did when we did the ‘Love Live’ tour. I’m also pleased that we’ve been able to add some dates in Australia to ‘Electric 13’ and remember if you want to keep up to date on the latest… Read the full article.

In February we posted the Billy & Johnny interview in which Billy and Johnny Marr talk about their friendship since school days in Wythenshawe, Manchester in the 1970s. One of the things discussed was the fact that they’d never played live together despite the years of friendship and having done a couple of recordings together. Well that all changed this week! On April 13th whist playing his gig at the Fillmore in San Francisco Johnny invited Billy to join him onstage as his special guest for two songs. The first was a storming version of ‘I fought the law’, the… Read the full article.
Obviously with my commitments to recording and touring with The Cult it’s not often that I get chance to play other gigs. This week was the exception as I was asked to appear as a special secret guest alongside Billy Idol at a Rock Against MS charity event at Whiskey a Go Go in LA. We played a couple of Billy’s songs, White Wedding ad Rebel Yell, and it was great to be part of this and to support such a worthy cause. Playing the show with Billy reminded me of the gig last year when I was lucky enough… Read the full article.
“Hey, I hope 2013 is going as well for you as it has been for me! Last month saw the launch of my Signature Gretsch White Falcon Guitar which was a really proud moment especially when I was presented with a commemorative plaque by Fred Gretsch! The response to the guitar has been fantastic and I’m sure that if any of you become lucky enough to own one yourself you’ll agree with me that she’s a beauty! The last couple of weeks I’ve been taking a vacation with some good friends in Miami and now I’m back in LA and… Read the full article.
“2013 is set to be a big year for me for a whole bunch of reasons. Probably the most import one at the moment is the launch of my Signature Gretsch White Falcon Guitar. I never could have believed when I saved up for my first one back in the Eighties that 30 years later Gretsch would be making one with my name on it! You can find out more about it here The next big news is that I’m just about to start writing new songs with Ian for a new Cult album and we’re going to be out… Read the full article.
Ever record a concert on your phone? Terrible, right? Not always… Nokia asked Billy to help them to see how good their Lumia 920 phone was at capturing his unique guitar sound. To make it a true test it was pitted against the 8X by HTC and the Samsung Galaxy SIII. You can see the challenge for yourself here…
On 22nd September Billy appeared as one of the special guest artists at the Marshall 50 Years of Loud at Wembley Arena, London UK. The concert was a celebration of not only the legendasy amps, but also a tribute to The brand creator Dr. Jim Marshall. Billy was in great company as a whole heap of the world’s top guitarists paid homage to a man that helped them find their sound. The lineup consisted of guitarists Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society), Kerry King (Slayer), Yngwie Malmsteem, Joe Satriani (Solo, Chickenfoot), Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake), Paul Gilbert (Racer X, Mr. Big), Phil Campbell (Motorhead), drummers… Read the full article.
