This is the English translation of an interview that appeared in the February 2014 issue of Spanish Football magazine Panenka. THE CULT OF FOOTBALL The Cult, the iconic hard rock band, has a guitarist who can compete with the Gallagher brothers for the title of Manchester City’s number 1 musician supporter. His name is Billy Duffy and lives a sunny exile in Los Angeles missing his club and playing, along with other celebrities of the British music scene, for teams like Hollywood United. What does football mean to you? BD; “That’s a metaphysical question to kick off with… so for… Read the full article.
With the 2013 drawing to a close I have to say that it’s been a great year but also a year of two halves. The early part of the year was all about the Falcon and from the summer onwards it was all about touring ‘Electric 13’. The Falcon… I’ve talked a lot about Gretsch producing my Signature version of their iconic White Falcon guitar but it’s almost impossible to put into words how proud I’ve been to see my name on that guitar. After originally falling in love with it over 30 years ago and playing one for my… Read the full article.
“I’m now halfway through a three week break before hitting the road again with the band for the last set of ‘Electric 13’ shows to wrap up 2013. This break has been timed to co-incide with Thanksgiving (which is a really big thing over here in the States) so that everyone in the band and crew gets chance to spend the time with their families over the holiday. Just like the States and Australia I really had a lot of fun playing the shows in Europe especially Britain. Over the last few years it feels like there’s been a resurgence… Read the full article.
G’Day! I’m writing this on a day off in Sydney and it’s weird as I’ve been here nearly a week and only done two gigs, infact of the time I’ve been here I’ve spent over 24 hours flying. This Australian tour is all about airports and super friendly Virgin staff, a lot of hotel rooms and a lot of time alone. This is is totally different from how it was on the ‘Electric 13’ American tour and how it will be on the British one coming up later this month because on those we’re all together on the tour bus,… Read the full article.
“Well I’ve been back home in LA for a few days now and getting myself sorted for the next set of ‘Electric 13’ dates as I head off with the band to Australia this week. Don’t forget you get regular updates and pics from the tour on my Facebook page so if you haven’t already followed me there what are you waiting for! I know I talked about how much fun the tour was in my last update and it just carried on getting better. I can’t wait to get back out there as we really were on fire and I feel I’m playing… Read the full article.
At the time of writing this I’m on a rare day off in the tour and I have to say its been fantastic fun so far. I’ve written a short Electric 13 update with my thoughts on the tour so far, playing with new guitarist James Stevenson, my tour gear and more and you can read it here… Big Bad Fun on the road Speaking to people on the tour we’ve had some really positive feedback on the Electric Peace release and playing Zap City has been great for me as its long been a favourite of mine. If you haven’t… Read the full article.
“Just a quick update. With less than a couple of weeks to go before we kick off ‘Electric 13’ in San Diego I’ve been hard at work with the guys on getting ready for the tour. We stared of rehearsals as a trio with me, Chris and Johnny as we felt like we just wanted to get a bit of the rust off as we haven’t played together for a while. Obviously ‘Electric’ is very much a two guitar album, one rhythm and one lead so with Mike moving on we’ve decided to welcome back James Stevenson back into the… Read the full article.
“It’s been great to have seen the buzz around the ‘Electric 13’ Tour since the dates were first announced and I’m really looking forward to playing all those songs live again. Over the years my live guitar solos on ‘Electric’ songs have morphed a bit into something different from the originals. So for this tour I’m trying to be as authentic as possible to the recorded versions, a bit like I did when we did the ‘Love Live’ tour. I’m also pleased that we’ve been able to add some dates in Australia to ‘Electric 13’ and remember if you want to keep up to date on the latest… Read the full article.
“In my last message I told you that something big n fun was coming in the summer and here it is… ‘Electric 13’. I’m out with The Cult on this tour are we’re going to play the whole ‘Electric’ album and it will be great to celebrate it with you in the same spirit as we did with the ‘Love Live’ tour a few years back. Click here for a full list of the dates Thinking of getting back out on tour made me look back at all the Set Lists in the Memora-biily-a section on my site and inspired… Read the full article.
In February we posted the Billy & Johnny interview in which Billy and Johnny Marr talk about their friendship since school days in Wythenshawe, Manchester in the 1970s. One of the things discussed was the fact that they’d never played live together despite the years of friendship and having done a couple of recordings together. Well that all changed this week! On April 13th whist playing his gig at the Fillmore in San Francisco Johnny invited Billy to join him onstage as his special guest for two songs. The first was a storming version of ‘I fought the law’, the… Read the full article.
