"With the success of the band it meant we got some great opportunities to do interesting things and this was certainly one of them. In 1994 the World Cup was taking place in the US and MTV was flying high on our screens. So, they organised the “All Star Football Tournament” in Amsterdam to film for the channel and it featured a load of footy legends and some apparently "up-and-coming " young bands like Blur !!!
As big football fans me and Ian jumped at the chance to play and it was great PR for the band too. We had a fantastic weekend but it was really hot and some of the ex pro footballers were unbelievably good at keeping the ball.
This bit of memora-billy-a is the programme for the event which also included stickers of the players. It was pure luck that I ended up in the “Blue Warriors” but it might have been a problem if they'd been a team called the Red Devils hahaha"
