“The Cult on the cover of Artificial Life fanzine. The phenomena of fanzines really became culturally important in the late 1970s and I became aware of them when the legendary “Sniffin Glue" blew up around 1976. At the time they were the only place to find out about new music… until the mainstream music press got interested and stopped writing so much about prog rock etc and jumped on the punk wagon to please their corporate sponsors haha.
When we got going in the 1980s fanzines like this one were still one of the best ways to spread the word about new bands and we certainly benefited.
We even made our own version of one and put them inside our first release the Death Cult 12” EP… and when I say put inside it was actually the band that did it… by hand!!!"
