“In 1989 when we released ‘Sun King’ as a single there was a limited-edition version in the UK that featured a Hologram Wallet wrapped around the standard version. In that era labels always went for new and exciting ways to package the music especially if things are going well and they certainly were for us around that time.
The hologram actually shows Ian much clearer than the original on the ‘Sonic Temple’ album as a lot of folks used to wind me up about it only being me on the front cover… I’d reply “yeah for sure my image is prominent, but Ian is the whole sleeve”!
Of course it had all been agreed between the band and Nick Egan, the designer, and all the many powers that be that the sleeve worked best like this.
On a footnote the green and red scheme came about when we were playing around with colours once the layout was finalized. We’d tried loads of combinations, and nothing popped until due to one of our many football conversations with Nick I mentioned a horrible green and red Chelsea FC away kit I’d seen. Nick being a huge Chelsea fan tried it out on the sleeve and the rest is as they say…
