Before moving to London to chase my “Rock n Roll Dream” I had my first taste of spending time in a professional studio in November 1978. The producer, Vic Maile, was a legend having worked with The Who, Hendrix, Led Zeppelin so more than a match for some young punks from Wythenshawe haha.
As you can see from the scrawl I was going through a brief period where Duffy didn't seem a very rock 'n' roll name... so was down as “Billy Nolan” which I'm almost certain was based on Jerry Nolan one from the Heartbreakers and the Dolls!!!
However, by the time the track “I Believe” was released as a single in 1979 I went for authenticity and “Billy Duffy” made his first ever appearance on vinyl. The rest is history… so they say 😉
