Manufactured by Dunlop the MXR phaser pedals have been used by a who’s who of guitar greats including Gerry Garcia, Brian May, Eddie Van Halen and Dave Gilmour. Along with the speed control there is a 4-position rotary switch that selects between four different intensities, defined as preset waveform patterns.
“This photo is the original MXR I owned and another of the pedals given to me by Jamie Stewart when he joined the band, and it can be heard a lot in early Death Cult and Cult recordings such as ‘Butterflies’ and ‘83rd Dream’. That pedal worked specifically for those tones, I used it as it was different to a flanger and very distinctive, but I’ve not used it so much lately.”
